Heavy Heavy Low Low | "Turtle Nipple and the Toxic Shock

Heavy Heavy Low Low
"Turtle Nipple and The Toxic Shock"
Ferret
2008

Taking the direction of, but not limited to an early release on SST, Dischord, or Touch and Go, HHLL thrives on a formula of minimalist punk energy, choppy tempos and the most bastardized take on prog rock you've probably ever heard. With sprinkles of glitchy keyboards, slabs of noisecore and frantic lyrics tossed in the mix, Turtle Nipple will get the rocks off for HHLL's endless legions of fans and usher in a throng of new ones.

When asked to describe the band's current direction, drummer Christopher Fritter states "I'd say this new CD brings my mind to another level. At times I just want to cry while listening to it. Then randomly I just want to hit a fool in the face." Spoken like a true craftsman who took part in creating this bipolar cacophony of an album. Yes, it will mess with your head but it'll prove to be the most exhilarating mind fuck you'll probably ever have.

Glowsun brings the "The Sundering" to the bloodyglove

Glowsun
"The Sundering"
Buzzville/Suburban
2008

France. They've brought us baguettes, croissants and guys like me, who act as if they can speak the language, some pussy here and there (Monsieur de la Boulanger if you're reading this, which I doubt, I didn't understand your daughter when she said she was only seventeen, I only know the number soixant-neuf in French, I'm sorry ok?). Musically they also brought us some good stuff. In that pile of good stuff I'm talking about, Glowsun is the best I've heard so far.
If you enjoy stoner, like I do, you'll love these guys. Are they original and do they define the genre in a new way never heard before? Hell no! They're just really good at making Stoner Rock! I'm talking nineties here, I'm talking Kyuss and early QOTSA here! Not a whole lot of vocals, but just enough to make sure it isn't an instrumental album. Good drumming and great, great guitars. If you picture a guitar sound when thinking of Stoner Rock, this is it! It's hard as hell, it's mushy like it should be and the man found his way to a wah pedal and knows how to use this fine commodity!

The album starts of with an easy song that gets thrashed with harder intervals and some good guitarwork! Highlight of this album is the 7+ minutes song 'Inside My Head'. In this song Glowsun goes all out and plays a lot of great riffs. This song never gets boring, believe me I tried...I listened to it over and over, but it just doesn't. This might be one of the better albums made in Europe this year.

So ladies and gentledudes, go check this band out, but be careful...You might like it!

"Say Goodnight To The World" DAX RIGGS

Dax Riggs
"Say Goodnight To The World"
Fat Possum
2010

This LP falls almost perfectly into Riggs' wheelhouse.  Still intensely blues influenced with that unmistakeable style he encompasses so well.  "Say Goodnight..." picks up where "...Blood or Love" left off, this time with more emphasis on complete song structure.  The backing band does a fantastic job of flooding the tracks with lots of delays and psychedelic drug-drenched guitars, thus capturing the essence that is "Say Goodnight to the World".  Standout tracks for me include probably the BEST cover I personally have ever heard, "Heartbreak Hotel", "Grave Dirt On My Blue Suede Shoes", and the more raucous, "Let Me Be Your Cigarette", round out what is yet another stellar effort from New Orleans' best crooner, DAX RIGGS.  Enjoy.

Memphis boys, The Heavy Eyes' Self-Titled LP now rocking the bloody glove

The Heavy Eyes
"Heavy Eyes"
Self-Released
2011
I've spent a lot of time with the debut release by this Tennessee band. Heavy Eyes seems to capture everything I dig in a rock record. Lots of fuzzy guitars, groovy foot stomping riffs and tons of attitude during its 11 tracks.

Imagine if you will, Brant Bjork, The White Stripes and Fu Manchu all sitting around puffing on a hookah listening to Zeppelin albums, then picking up their gear and just going for it. That's the vibe I get from this impressive slab of rock put forth on here. Plenty of soul and a real sense of honesty is captured during the whole duration of the album.

Seems to be that all these new bands that are opting to put out their music themselves, whether it's through iTunes, bandcamp or whatever file hosting website they choose is really making things interesting. The production on the album is stellar and really has a live jammy feeling to it. Maybe being mixed and mastered in the city where rock and roll started with Elvis in Memphis has something to do with it. Some of that voodoo may be rubbing off here. The band has posted on their bandcamp page: "We hope this album melts your speakers".  I'd say...mission accomplished!

Sweden brings us "Nest of Vipers" LP from GREENLEAF now playing...

Greenleaf
"Nest of Vipers"
Small Stone
2012

Sweden's Greenleaf has been a favorite of mine for many many years now.  They've been putting out quality straight up Rock and Roll that would fall into that vein of "Stoner Rock".  The more I listen to this record, I hear far superior production value and mastering.  The drums sound so good on this LP.  Nice and loud.  Bonham would be proud.  It's a hard-driving sexy fuzzed out classic!  THIS is how to put a 'Supagroup' together, damnit!  Take NOTE.  Featuring BLOODYGLOVE favorites such as members of...TRUCKFIGHTERS, DOZER, OPETH, DEMON CLEANER and LOWRIDER.  This is how it's done.  Psyched out grooves flood the middle of the LP with a sonic overload of the perfect fuzzed out tone and delays...ENJOY THIS!!

The Almighty SNAIL now playing...

Snail
"Terminus"
Self-Released
2012

Snail reunited in 2008 after 15 years of slumber, added long-time friend and guitarist Eric Clausen, and unleashed “Blood” (Meteor City)—what many said was one of the Top Ten stoner/doom records of 2009. Not merely riff-rock, “Blood” combined fuzzy guitars and a pummeling rhythm section with layered, soaring melodies rarely heard in the genre. In a time of industry turmoil, the record went from blood-red to “in the black.” The record even attracted the attention of underground music legend Henry Rollins, getting multiple plays on his “Fanatics” radio show on influential Los Angeles station KCRW."

I have been a fan of SNAIL for a number of years and they are back with their best album to date - TERMINUS.

Terminus is a 10 song collection featuring some of the best psych/doom/stoner metal riffs of 2012. This album is getting a lot of praise from various blogs and websites and its not hard to see why.

It simply is a brilliant must have collection of standout tracks that any great Stoner Metal band would be proud to call their own.

These guys are like a more trippier psych version of ShrineBuilder. So if your into that great band then check out these awesome Stoner Metallers.

Their new album is available on BandCamp Pay Anything You Want Type Deal. So headover now and download your copy now. If your feeling generous then please make a small donation to this great band.

Believe me this album's free download status will be gone in no time.

The album is brilliantly produced and is one of the freshest sound album I have heard this year. All of the songs are brilliant examples of top-notch Stoner Metal that will have you coming back for more.

Especially tracks like "Recursion", "Matchbook" and "Burn the Flesh".

Fucking Awesome - Just download it now. You need this album in your life. It's seriously that great.
